N\u00c3\u00a4r det g\u00c3\u00a4ller l\u00c3\u00a4rande talar Theo om att det handlar mer om <em>hur<\/em> \u00c3\u00a4n om <em>vad<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n<blockquote>&#8221;No one can learn to think without having something to think about.  If you try to teach someone how to think in the abstract, you are not going to get anywhere.  If you try to make education &#8221;easy&#8221;, by removing the content, you are cheating your students out of the most important thing you have to offer: the chance to do something hard.  Only by mastering a difficult body of knowledge can a child develop into a confident, thinking adult.  The point is, it doesn&#8217;t necessarily have to be the same difficult body of knowledge that the child&#8217;s parents learned.&#8221;<\/blockquote>\n\n<p>Det \u00c3\u00a4r sv\u00c3\u00a5rt, jobbigt och n\u00c3\u00a4rmast sm\u00c3\u00a4rtsamt att l\u00c3\u00a4ra sig. D\u00c3\u00a4rf\u00c3\u00b6r ska man inte tro att det g\u00c3\u00a5r att fuska bort det h\u00c3\u00a5rda arbetet genom att s\u00c3\u00a4tta barn framf\u00c3\u00b6r datorer. Jag drar paralleller till tidigare teknologiska genombrott som alla lett till en tro p\u00c3\u00a5 en revolution av undervisningen p\u00c3\u00a5 ungef\u00c3\u00a4r samma premisser. S\u00c3\u00a4tt barnen framf\u00c3\u00b6r utbildningsprogram p\u00c3\u00a5 radio, sedan TV, i inl\u00c3\u00a4rningsstudios, eller som nu med inl\u00c3\u00a4rningsprogram s\u00c3\u00a5 beh\u00c3\u00b6ver vi inte l\u00c3\u00a4rarna l\u00c3\u00a4ngre. Men det handlar inte om stoffet vilket alla dessa utbildningsteknologiska fr\u00c3\u00a4lsare verkar tro. Det handlar om att utveckla t\u00c3\u00a4nkandet d\u00c3\u00a4r stoffet visserligen \u00c3\u00a4r n\u00c3\u00b6dv\u00c3\u00a4ndigt, utan ett tr\u00c3\u00a4stycke \u00c3\u00a4r det sv\u00c3\u00a5rt att t\u00c3\u00a4lja, men det \u00c3\u00a4r kanske inte s\u00c3\u00a5 himla avg\u00c3\u00b6rande exakt vilket tr\u00c3\u00a4slag man r\u00c3\u00a5kar f\u00c3\u00a5. D\u00c3\u00a4remot m\u00c3\u00a5ste det ge ett l\u00c3\u00a4mpligt motst\u00c3\u00a5nd och inte inneh\u00c3\u00a5lla f\u00c3\u00b6r mycket kvistar f\u00c3\u00b6r den f\u00c3\u00b6rm\u00c3\u00a5ga som sl\u00c3\u00b6jdaren besitter. Det viktiga \u00c3\u00a4r att utveckla f\u00c3\u00b6rm\u00c3\u00a5gan att uppt\u00c3\u00a4cka och utnyttja tr\u00c3\u00a4styckets egenskaper. Om det sedan blir en gubbe, en h\u00c3\u00a4st eller en b\u00c3\u00a5t \u00c3\u00a4r kanske mindre viktigt. N\u00c3\u00a5got som ocks\u00c3\u00a5 \u00c3\u00a4r viktigt \u00c3\u00a4r att det \u00c3\u00a4r m\u00c3\u00b6jligt att misslyckas. Hanterar man kniven p\u00c3\u00a5 ett dumdristigt s\u00c3\u00a4tt g\u00c3\u00a5r det illa och det \u00c3\u00a4r ingen ov\u00c3\u00a4sentlig f\u00c3\u00b6ruts\u00c3\u00a4ttning f\u00c3\u00b6r l\u00c3\u00a4rande:<\/p>\n\n<blockquote>&#8221;Imagine taking your kids to a fun movie, having a good time, eating ice cream.  No harm in that.  But should you tell them that they are having an important educational experience?  Should you tell them that they have accomplished something by sitting through the whole movie?  What a horrible devaluation of accomplishment that would be!  What&#8217;s the point of actually working hard to reach success, if your parents and teachers will praise you for joking around and eating ice cream?\n\nThat&#8217;s exactly what most educational software is: A stupid, insipid movie that keeps your kids entertained for an hour or two while the teacher plans a bake sale to replace the music budget that was spent on computers.
